A very fine pair of carved wood and cane French Louis XIV style armchairs, with character and flair, retaining their original caning with cartouche shaped backs and bow front seats, on cabriole legs joined by X-shaped stretchers. The frames are very sturdy and delightfully painted, in good condition, with worn patina throughout, giving them character and charm, comfortable chairs you will enjoy for a lifetime. The design is based on examples from the Louis XIV period though they share characteristics to be seen in Louis XV seat furniture. French furniture was held in high regard for its quality and decorative styles. It had international appeal being in demand across various continents. Other countries were making pieces to compete with French manufacturers including the USA.
