Description
A remarkable set of French Louis XVI Style dining chairs with elegance and charm. They feature a most refined design with gorgeous clean angular lines, reeded and tapered legs, original wonderful age throughout the surfaces. The paint is original, a beautifully worn distressed creamy white with gold contrast in the recesses and carvings. The sharp angularity of the frame is softened by the gentle medallion caned backs and subtle curvature of the seat. Each corner is embellished with a rosette and is locked in place permanently with small pins. It is most impressive, leaving the joints incredibly strong and each chair ready for another generation to use. A beautiful set of six that has remained in a single collection since it was acquired by the prior owner original metallic label (John Widdicomb co-makers of fine furniture Grand Rapids) remains affixed beneath the seat. The chairs are both very comfortable and supportive. Full sets are very difficult to find, particularly of this condition and wonderful form. They are a most marvelous quality for anyone passionate about the French form. The chairs are both very comfortable, sturdy and supportive, and most striking. They will bring extraordinary presence to an interior.
