Description
Pair of Mid Century Abstract Expressionist Oils on Board Signed Lower Right “Griffin”. The paintings are in the style of 1950’s Willem de Kooning, bold and Abstract Expressionist brush strokes, heavy black lines and an urgency that is synonymous with de Kooning’s work. The paintings are executed in equal color palates, Orange, Red, Black and Muted Yellow and are framed in a period 1960’s style frame.
“Red Queen” is a vertical painting with a central figure standing poised. “Country Rose” has matching dimensions and the central figure stands out on this piece.
The paintings use an expressionistic technique on a muted background with bold colors while the figure is done in black giving the figure a depth. This style and technique is difficult to achieve which showcases the quality of these paintings. Both of the paintings are executed in the same manner and style making these a perfect and compliantly pair of paintings. Both of these two paintings will add to any mid-century Design house or art collection.
