Extra Notes: A modern table much influenced by Scandinavian post-war designs. Elm is a deciduous and semi-deciduous tree; it has interlocking grain which makes it highly resistant to splitting. As a result it is a highly valued wood in the production of many items including furniture, hockey sticks, coffins, papermaking, boxes and baskets. It is also resilient to disintegration even when constantly wet; its hollowed out trunk was used for pipes
