Description
Unique and original 1968 Unicorn (Star Trek) chairs in yellow, designed by Vladimir Kagan for Chromcraft Sculpta. This set of 4 space age swivel chairs, in their original yellow leatherette, is sometimes referred to as the Star Trek chair due to examples of these appearing on the sets of the original Star Trek episodes in 1967-1969. The chairs feature beautiful button tufted leatherette detail in a rare mustard yellow that adds a striking contrast to the V-shaped metal swivel “unicorn” bases. All four swivel and have a return spring to keep them facing forward. The original labels are intact but are attached to the chair bottoms in the center, which is hidden beneath the attached metal post that conceals the bearings. A fun and exceptional set that would make a powerful impact and blend well with any modern contemporary home or office. Certainly, a conversation starter!
Condition Report: Buttons are intact, no tears, rips or punctures. Very solid and heavy well-built chairs expertly built to last. Swivel mechanisms work smoothly.
Interesting side note:
The Unicorn Swivel Chairs appeared in two episodes of the original Star Trek:
– The Trouble with Tribbles: (a 2nd season episode) The Original Series, first broadcast on December 29, 1967 and repeated June 21, 1968. It is episode #44, production #42, and was written by David Gerrold and directed by Joseph Pevney.
– Spock`s Brain: (a 3rd season episode) The Original Series, first broadcast September 20, 1968. It was the first episode of the third season and the first to air after NBC moved the show from 8:30 P.M. to 10 P.M. on Friday nights. It was repeated July 8, 1969. It is episode #56, production #61, written by Gene L. Coon (under the pseudonym Lee Cronin) and directed by Marc Daniels.
