An exceptionally rare pair of original PP68 elbow Chairs, designed by Hans J. Wegner for PP Møbler, Denmark 1987. The solid frames feature modern styling with a distinct beautiful design. Sculpturally carved backrests and rich, warm ash frames. The short armrest makes it effortless to enter, move around and relax. The design of the short armrest allows them to fit under the table. Each seat is woven with original paper cord, in good condition, lending comfort, all resting on strong and sturdy legs. Maker’s stamp (PP Møbler, Denmark design Hans J. Wegner) on underside of chairs. The paper cord seats with a neutral shade easily blend with many classic mid century modern tones, as the medium ash grains contrast the seats nicely. Classic mid-century modern styling with sturdy, solid construction. In very good vintage condition. The PP68 chairs are Wagner’s’ final dining chair. This design was guided by a lifetime of development of design and study of his and contemporaries’ works. The result is genius in all aspects – comfortable, practical, strong and durable. The chair is designed to accommodate alternate seating positions, making it a joy to sit in for hours at a time. Originally this chair was designed by Wegner for the DSB (Danish Rail) ferries, however DSB ended up choosing PP208 (another of Wegner’s chairs). Wegner continued to redesign the PP68 and in 1987 PP Møbler started production. With The PP68 Chair, Wegner created comfortable dining chairs suitable for long, cozy evenings around the dining table. As opposed to many of Wegner’s more elaborate models, the short armrests have been designed enabling them to, partially, fit under the table, and it can also hang from the table top to make cleaning easier. Each solid wood tenon joint has been tested to withstand one ton of pulling strength. These classic originals with their beautiful warm patina are a perfect complement to your dining room or as a statement accent chairs in your office or living areas of your home.
