Six French Painted Caned Rococo Style Dining Chairs

A magnificent set of six French painted beech-wood framed & caned dining chairs in Rococo style, circa 1950s.

Description

A magnificent set of six French painted beech-wood framed & caned dining chairs with elegance and charm. They feature a most refined design in the time-honored mid-1700s Rococo style, circa 1950s, original wonderful age throughout the surfaces. The paint is original, a beautifully worn distressed creamy white with blue contrast in the recesses and carvings. The sharp angularity of the frame is softened by the gentle caned backs and subtle curvature of the seat. Comprising four side chairs and two carvers. These vintage reproductions feature caned backs in a cartouche-shaped frame with carved reed-&-channel molding, joined to a caned shield-form seat rail, raised on cabriole legs headed with carved stylized shell motifs, and legs and front rail apron carved in a continuous serpentine molded line of reed-&-channel. The original ivory paint with pale blue delineating accents has a lovely patina exhibiting age wear and natural distress. A beautiful set of six that has remained in a single collection since it was acquired by the prior owner. Full sets are very difficult to find, particularly of this condition and wonderful form. They are a most marvelous quality for anyone passionate about the French form. The chairs are both very comfortable, sturdy and supportive, and most striking. They will bring extraordinary presence to an interior.
