Description

John Stango (born 1958) An original vintage work of art on canvas 31″ x 24″ unframed and signed “Stango” (lower right). This fine example of Modern American Pop Art from the 1950’s, is inspired by Jackson Square brand cigar advertising poster. The artwork comes from a private collection. “Genuine Jackson Square Cigar” is a painting in the style of vintage advertisements depicting a well-dressed man in a blue suit, playfully riding an enormous cigar, as if it were a rocket or mechanical bull with an impressive yellow background. Influenced from advertising imagery from the 50’s and 60’s, along with contemporary Pop artists. This is a nice example of John Stango’s work. The painting is executed in bold colors and will add style to any mid-century design house or art collection. n n nArtist: John Stango (b. 1958) American nCreation year: 20th century nMedium: Canvas nMovement & Style: Pop Art nCondition: Good nCondition Details: this painting is in good original condition nMeasurements: H 31″ x W 24″ n n nAs an Emerging American Pop Artist, Stango’s work is represented in galleries from New York to California, Sweden to Japan, attracting patrons from a widely diverse demographic, his art appears in public and private collections throughout the country. John Stango (b. 1958) was raised and educated in Philadelphia. A true mid century pop artist, working in the styles of Andy Warhol and Peter Max, Stango seeks and finds inspiration in the colors and subjects of the urban and glamorous 1950’s and 60’s he remembers from his childhood reality and dreams. He is internationally known for his bold colors, masculine and aggressive textures, and advertisement-esque depictions of mid century themes and celebrities. Currently he works out of a historic warehouse outside of Philadelphia painting full – time. n n
