This vintage mid century smoked glass table with its classic Scandinavian design features original circular smoke thick glass top, supported by four graceful bentwood Rosewood veneer legs that join together in the center creating a sleek tulip shaped base. Attribution marks, manufacturer’s label (Vatne Møbler made in Norway) on the underside. Strong and sturdy glass shows minimal wear. n nDesigner: Sigurd Ressell nManufacturer: Vatne Møbler nPlace of Origin: Norway nProduction Period:1974-1979 nDesign Period: Mid Century – Scandinavian Modern nMaterials and Techniques: Rosewood, Smoked Glass nCondition: Good nWear: This vintage item has no defects, but it may show slight traces of use. nMeasurements: diameter 35″ x 18″ tall n nHistory: nSigurd Ressell nNorwegian interior and industrial designer Sigurd Ressell (also spelled Resell) was particularly active during the 1950s and ‘60s and is best known for his collaboration with Vatne Møbler, which resulted in the iconic Falcon Chair and Table. nIn 1968, Ressell became the chief designer for Norwegian furniture company Vatne, and his seminal Falcon Chair (1970) soon followed. Originally named Blank Vals, the hammock-like chair was the result of a furniture competition for the Industry Council. Vatne began production of the chair in 1971 under the new name. Within two years, Vatne’s sales tripled as Falcon Chairs sold worldwide, particularly in the United States, Japan, Germany, and Australia. n n n n n
