Description
From Galleria L’Angolo in Naples, Italy
Description: an original oil on canvas painting by artist Giorgio Luppi (Italian, 20th Century). This painting is a blend of fauvism and surrealism. We love the bold brushstrokes, contrast of sharp colors, and an impasto texture applied by the artist. The painting is signed and dated on the lower right, along with a short description on the back reading, “Roma nel Risorgimento Italiano, dai Fratelli Cairoli ai Martiri delle Fosse Ardeatine,” and Galleria L’Angolo (Roma) stamp on verso.
“The Ardeatine massacre, or Fosse Ardeatine massacre (Italian: Eccidio delle Fosse Ardeatine) was a mass killing carried out in Rome on 24 March 1944 by German occupation troops during the Second World War as a reprisal for a partisan attack conducted on the previous day in central Rome against the SS Police Regiment Bozen.”
Displayed in custom frame, it measures at approx. 35.5″ tall x 29.5″ wide x 1.75″ deep with a sight size of 25.25 x 31″Roma nel Risorgimento Italiano, dai Fratelli Cairoli ai Martiri delle Fosse Ardeatine’
