Solid Teak model FD510 Mid-Century Modern imported by John Stuart side table designed by Tove and Edvard Kindt-Larsen and manufactured by France & Daverkosen. A solid teak rectangular table top with a graceful bowed side rail and features an open lower shelf and four tapered round legs. The lower shelf features sculpted side rails that support 12 smooth slats that create a shelf midway down the legs. Referenced by the Design Museum Denmark under number RP15840. Manufacturer’s Stamp – F&D France & Daverkosen. Distributor Label – John Stuart Inc – Grand Rapids, New York on underside of table. In the early years the company was called France & Daverkosen, Charles’s son James joined the company in 1957 which resulted in the name change to France & Son. nAt the very beginning the company produced mattresses. They then developed the idea to use two simple loose sprung cushions on their first chairs which would pave the way for a whole new generation of minimalist framed modernist chairs. nThe company was at the very vanguard of modern design and came to epitomize the Danish modern aesthetic. They had an incredible rostra of designers producing work for them which reads like a who’s who of design at the time, they included Arne Vodder, Grete Jalk, Peter Hvidt & Orla Molgaard Nielsen, Inger Klingenberg, Finn Juhl, Ole Wanscher, Greve Sigvard Bernadotte and Edvard & Tove Kindt Larsen. nJohn Stuart Inc. nJohn Stuart or John Stuart, Inc. was an American furniture company and distributor in Grand Rapids Michigan from at least 1934 to 1956.
