An exceptional 20th century Afghan Kelim, Afghan village, wool on wool foundation. A colorful design with polychrome field with three conjoined stepped and hooked radiating medallions within a red continuous hooked and stepped medallion border. The border in original fringes, the rug in good original condition with no observed repairs or stains. Pile is low and worn evenly throughout. The style of the pattern and the fact that the flat woven surface is woven on a grey wool foundation confirms this to be of the origin as stated. The term “kelim” means “flat weave” in Persian.
